Saab 9-3 to get a second life later this year, EV version arriving in 2014

National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS) has confirmed Saab 9-3 production will be restarted later this year.
However, the 9-3 will be manufactured in China instead of the firm's Trollhattan factory which was NEVS' original plan. The company that owns Saab has the rights to build the Saab 9-3 and the electric ePower version which never saw the light of day. NEVS also has the right to use the Saab name, but not the griffin logo.
Although the government in China has serious intentions about EVs, the current infrastructure isn't able to support a large number of electric vehicles. To develop the infrastructure, deals between foreign companies and local investors have to be made but they could take up to 18 months, which is why the EV version of the Saab 9-3 won't arrive this year.
